The Keller family arrived from the Alsace region of France in the 1760's. They settled in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana. They were not a part of the exiled Cajuns from Nova Scotia, but rather settlers of the frontier west of the Mississippi River. The first Keller's Bakery was opened by Victor Keller in Abbeville, LA around 1895. Since then there have various locations including Crowley, Eunice, Opelousas, New Orleans and Lafayette.
Fenwick and Eleanor Keller arrived in Lafayette in 1929 and opened Keller's here in Acadiana. We built at the present location in 1948 and have since become a landmark to many in the area. At the present time, Keller's is owned and operated by Kenneth Keller, a fourth generation baker. Many of the recipes used today at Keller's Bakery have been passed from generation to generation unchanged, some dating back over a hundred years.
At Keller's you'll find the traditional sweet treats and delicate pastries you'd expect from a French bakery, but you'll also find savory filled pies featuring some of the most prized assets of the region, crawfish. Keller's sells some of the best King Cakes in the area.
